In the centre of Carmarthen the new Welsh language centre is open for everyone of all ages.

Here’s Iola Wyn, Manager at Yr Atom, to answer our questions.

What’s the aim of the centre?

The Centre’s main aim is to develop Carmarthen as a truly bilingual town, ensuring that the Welsh language is seen and heard more often. Yr Atom will help to create a vibrant Welsh community where local people, of all ages and backgrounds, will be able to socialise in the Welsh language.

What activities/facilities/Services will the Centre offer?

Available at the centre are:

  • Atom Café serving food and drink
  • Merched y Wawr evenings
  • Welsh for Adults lessons by Carmarthenshire Council & University of Wales Trinity St Davids 
  • Rooms to let for various activities, conferences, concerts, workshops, interviews and parties
  • Baby Massage sessions 
  • Yoga lessons
  • Cymru FM radio studios
  • The new home of Cylch Meithrin Caerfyrddin
  • Youth Club run by Menter Gorllewin Sir Gar, Urdd Gobaith Cymru & Carmarthenshire Council

When will the Centre be open?

The café is open to the public Monday to Saturday 9am – 4.30pm

The centre is located on one of Carmarthen’s main streets, King Street.
