Style guides
The Translation Service maintains a general style guide, Yr Arddulliadur, as well as a Legislative Translation Style Guide and Legislative Drafting Glossary. These guides aim to ensure consistency across the Government’s work. Translators working on behalf of the Welsh Government are asked to follow the advice given in these guides.
The advice may also be useful for other translators and indeed for anyone who drafts Welsh-language texts.
Yr Arddulliadur has been developed to give advice and guidance for those translating general texts. You can browse it alphabetically or by section, or search it for specific words.
Our Legislative Translation Style Guide and Legislative Drafting Glossary have been developed to give advice and guidance to those translating legislative materials. These are currently Word documents.
We are considering amalgamating these guides to create a single searchable resource.
