By now it's possible to buy all sorts of Welsh goods online or in shops across the country that use the language. You’ll find a list of businesses providing Welsh language products or services on lleol.net. Here are some ideas of the vast range of homegrown products and companies that promote Cymraeg.
If you're looking for a good Welsh book, you can choose one of several shopping options.
Gwales.com is a bilingual website run by the Welsh Books Council where you can choose from a wide range of Welsh language books or books in English about Wales. It also publishes book reviews.
For electronic readers (such as Kindle, Kobo or iPad), the Welsh Books Council's 'Welsh Books' app enables you to browse and purchase Welsh language e-books or you can find over 100 Welsh language titles on Amazon. Amazon sell Welsh-language paperbacks and hardbacks too.
You can buy online directly from publishing houses based in Wales such as Y Lolfa, Carreg Gwalch or Gomer.
There are also plenty of Welsh book shops in all parts of Wales e.g. Palas Print in Caernarfon, Siop y Siswrn in Mold or Tŷ Tawe in Swansea. These shops also sell a range of greetings cards, CDs, DVDs, gifts etc. To find your local shop, check out Wikipedia's comprehensive list.
One of the first Welsh-language record labels back in the 1960s was Sain which now sells its catalogue of CDs and DVDs online, along with a range of digital downloads and sheet music. Amazon also sells Welsh CDs, DVDs and digital downloads.
Both the National Museum Wales and Cadw sell a range of Welsh gifts online as well as in their shops. Welsh language slogans or words have also proved popular on crockery, wall posters and other goods. Adra Bodlon and Siop Cwlwm are among the shops selling them – other companies are listed on lleol.net.
As any seasoned National Eisteddfod goer will tell you, it's not all about the competing. Shopping is an integral part of life on the field, or ‘maes’, with dozens of stalls selling Welsh books, crafts, clothing and gifts.
You'll see these worn at every Eisteddfod - t-shirts with Welsh language slogans from companies like Cowbois, CrysauT.co.uk and Crysau Crwban. But you don't have to wait for the annual Eisteddfod to buy - all these companies have online shops too.
You'll also find a range of fine crafts on sale at the National Eisteddfod – including jewellery, ceramics and artwork from across Wales.
Foodies will find Welsh produce in specialist shops and delicatessens as well as supermarkets and online suppliers. See the Visit Wales website and our Food and Drink page for a flavour of what's available.
