There's a strong business case for companies to use the language and there's more support than ever before to help businesses, large and small, to do that easily.

Welsh in Business Support Officers

There are 10 Welsh for Business officers who can help you increase your use of Welsh for free. They can offer practical advice and point you in the direction of support. They are based all over Wales and you can find your local officer's contact details here. Also as local community organisations, the Mentrau Iaith promote Welsh in all sectors, including supporting businesses to increase their use of Welsh.

Welsh Government grants

The Welsh Government often provides grants to help promote the Welsh language. In 2017 it awarded Cymraeg 2050 grants to promoting and facilitate the use of the Welsh language through innovation. Have a look to see which other areas the Welsh Government supports.

Business Wales

Business Wales is the Welsh Government's business support service. Its fully bilingual website offers a wide range of resources to support business of all sizes to grow. Its mentoring service is available in Welsh and it offers some workshops and seminars in Welsh.

Welsh Language Commissioner

The Welsh Language Commissioner helps businesses of all kinds to develop their use of Welsh. It has regional officers who can offer practical support to businesses to help plan and manage their use of Welsh. It also assists workers and staff to use more Welsh at work and has resources to promote the use of Welsh in the workplace. A proofreading service is offered free of charge of up to 1000 words specifically for small and medium sized businesses via the Welsh Language Commissioner. It can also offer advice on best practice regarding translation and simultaneous translation.

Companies can get advice on all aspects of translation from the Commissioner - including how to plan bilingual meetings and documents and guidance for those commissioning bilingual work. Your local Menter Iaith and the Association of Welsh Translators and Interpreters - Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru will also be of help.

Learn Welsh

Work Welsh is a new programme designed to support and deliver Welsh language training for the workforce. Work Welsh offers fully-funded, flexible Welsh language training. From beginners to fluent speakers, Work Welsh has something for everyone.


With nearly a third of schools in Wales offering Welsh medium education, our bilingual workforce is growing and employing bilingual staff is getting easier.  

You can offer traineeships and full-time jobs for bilingual staff by advertising on websites such as Careers Walessafle swyddi, lleol, swyddle or golwg360.

It is possible to recruit an apprentice for your company who can speak Welsh through the Apprenticeship Programme
